Washing Machine Cleaner, huh?

While I do hear about and understand there are problems with the newer model “eco-friendly, low water-type” machines, most notably front loaders, I am not on board with purchasing another expensive, unnecessary cleaning product due to design flaws of the manufacturer.
What’s happening is this: Wash water gets trapped behind door seals and other flat surfaces eventually turning into mold or mildew. And, while the visual appearance may go undetected for some time, the smell will eventually let you know its there.
Leaving the door open to provide air circulation helps, but it does not eliminate the problem. This smell permeates into your clothes and while fragranced detergents may temporarily cover up the odor, if you take a big whiff of your freshly laundered items you will still smell the smell.
Over time, the smell can make you sick. When inhaled, mildew spores cause coughing, headache, sore throat, and respiratory problems; mold can result in considerable structural damage when left unattended for a long time.
Vinegar and bleach are the recommended cleaning solutions, but they are harsh and not recommended by most washing machine manufacturers as they breakdown rubber gaskets and other parts voiding warranties. Inhaling bleach is another major health hazard so please don’t do it!!
